The Department of Student Services is responsible for overseeing all Special Education Programs, Home Schooling, Home Instruction, Intra-district Open Enrollment, New Student Registration, C-FIT, EMIS, the education program at the Medina County Juvenile Detention Center, Pathways to Success Program, Career Based Intervention Program (CBI), English as a Second Language (ESL) Program, MCS Technology School and Helping Hands Preschool.


IntraDistrict Open Enrollment Option for the 2012/13 School Year

Medina City Schools' students who wish to attend an elementary or middle school other than the one determined by their residence may do so by completing a 2012/13 IntraDistrict Open Enrollment Option Application. Applications are taken via on-line submission only starting on Monday, April 2, 2012 through Thursday, June 30, 2012 for the 2012/13 school year only.  Parents will receive notification in writing of their child's acceptance/non-acceptance no later than the second week of August 2012.  


Inclusion Teacher (IT) Award

The Department of Student Services is very excited to announce a new award for Medina City School District regular education staff servicing students with disabilities. The Inclusion Teacher (IT) Award will be given to regular education teachers who provide exemplary service to students with special needs in their classroom. You know IT when you see IT and we are asking you to nominate the teachers in your building who have IT!

Please send the nomination form to Dr. Kristine Quallich, Office of Student Services at 739 Weymouth Rd, Medina Ohio 44256. Awards will be given two times each school year at buildings.  Staff will be called on stage at the end of the year staff meeting to be recognized by the entire district.

SUMMER PROGRAMS 2012

Summer Reinforcement Program(SRP)-ages 3-12 years; Mon.-Fri. June 13-July 13 (off July 4); 9-12pm;. Learning is fun at SRP! Classes focus on reinforcing math and reading skills, with other fun activities included. Program is open to all students, including students with special needs.  Social Skills Groups and Speech services are offered by the program; OT & PT services can be coordinated for delivery during SRP.  Instructors are certificated teachers. STARS-Grades P-5; Tues-Wed-Thurs; weeks of June 18, 25, July 9, 16, 30 & Aug. 6; 9:00-12 pm; STARS, for students with special needs,  provides practice in social skills, communication, and academics to reinforce IEP goals during the summer months. Students have an opportunity to interact with each other in large/small groups in a safe, inviting environment, with fun activities that vary each week. Snack is provided daily. Speech, OT & PT services provided on-site. Location: Northrop Elementary (Students may attend individual weeks or entire program.)  Click here for STARS APPLICATION FORM.

STRIPES-Grade 6 and above; Tues-Wed-Thurs; weeks of June 18, 25, July 9, 16, 30 & Aug. 6; 9:00-12 pm. STRIPES will offer the opportunity to improve social communication skills in an action packed, fun-filled environment. Campers will be divided into many smaller groups based on grade and/or ability level. Campers will participate in large/small group activities designed to increase interaction abilities and to facilitate improvements in listening, following directions, turn-taking, participating in group dynamics and understanding differing viewpoints. Snack provided daily. Speech, OT & PT provided on-site. Location: Medina High School (Students may attend individual weeks or entire program.)  Click here for STRIPES APPLICATION FORM.
